Marcial

Line after line, desire takes shape.

Marcial draws male bodies. No idealised silhouettes, no retouching: hairy, fat, tattooed, bearded, ageing men, drawn with the attention usually reserved for the bodies nobody draws.

Everything is drawn by hand on an iPad, without artificial intelligence. Every hair, every fold of fabric, every tattoo motif is laid down one at a time. Volume never comes from shading or a gradient: it comes from the density of the line. That is a constraint, and it is the subject.

The work began in 2020, in a cellar, during lockdown. A printing and engraving studio was set up there, and the founding gesture was a diversion: laying pornographic drawings over the supports of a classical imagination — vintage plates, decorated ceramics, small wooden boards. From afar, a decoration. Up close, not at all. This double reading was never a theoretical intention; it came out of those objects.

The visual kinship is with linocut: an economy of means that forces decisions, and flat, frank colours that place the work in a contemporary language rather than in anatomical study.

Self-taught, early in the path. Prints are sold on ArtMajeur.
